WelaxxxEasier & FasterA maintenance update with important fixes for a cleaner downloading experience.

Default filenames no longer add internal video IDs. Improved names and sensible fallbacks for supported video sources.
The displayed app version now matches the installed WDM release.
WDM 2.0.1 introduces signed Sparkle-based updates behind the original WDM Premium update interface. From future supported versions onward, you can check for an update, download it, verify it, and install it directly inside WDM, with an automatic relaunch.
The updater was verified on both Intel and Apple Silicon Macs with a signed and notarized test update. Licence, preferences and downloads remained in place after updating.
Important for existing WDM 2.0 customers: the new in-app updater begins with WDM 2.0.1. WDM 2.0 itself does not gain this update channel retroactively; updating from 2.0 to 2.0.1 requires a separate manual installation process.
WDM 2.0.1
WDM Browser tracks the video you are actually using. Switching media clears older titles, thumbnails and quality choices; scrolling alone does not pick a new video.
Restored the approved video download path, including available quality choices and complete video-with-audio output.
Improved manually pasted YouTube links so confirmation can show the correct video title and matching thumbnail, with the approved manual download path and progress handling.
Improved link metadata and thumbnail preflight for supported sources before starting a transfer, instead of showing generic filenames and blank previews.
Improved Vimeo player-page handling and the official-player fallback to obtain complete video and audio, rather than an incomplete stream.
Shows an estimated total where exact size is unavailable, with forward-moving progress based on downloaded data instead of an incorrect tiny total or a bouncing indicator.
Removed duplicated, floating and flickering capture controls so the overlay follows the correct video.
Improved browsing responsiveness and media detection, with the correct human-readable title, matching thumbnail and working downloads.
Fixed unwanted [content] text being appended to filenames from ChatGPT downloads.
Refined Safari interception around real download response details, reducing false capture while passing supported file downloads to WDM.
Added more selective response handling for problematic or rate-limited requests. Safari extension behavior remains separately versioned from the WDM app.
Removed the temporary Safari test diagnostic file that could previously appear in the user’s Downloads folder.
The Welcome and website now explain Safari, Chrome/Edge/Brave, Firefox and Opera clearly, with dedicated installation instructions.
Added Opera as its own browser companion and download, rather than bundling it into the Chromium package.
Preserved the approved Chrome/Edge/Brave and Firefox workflows, including the established browser video capture integrations.
A polished four-browser Welcome introduces the integrations and appears only at the appropriate fresh-install or major-upgrade moment, not on every launch.
A premium in-app update information experience presents version changes, scrollable release notes and clearer browser-extension compatibility states.
The verified update’s Ready screen fits its actual content, without a large unused dark area below the action buttons.
Signed in-app updates replace the existing installation rather than launching a second copy of WDM, and relaunch the updated app when complete.
Fixed Chromium card heading overflow, improved responsive alignment and enlarged the Chrome, Edge and Brave icons to match the other browser identities.
Kept the approved YouTube, Vimeo, Dailymotion, browser capture and existing site integrations isolated from unrelated changes.
Refined the manual-media and browser handoff paths so progress and confirmation details are more consistent with the selected media.
WDM 2.0.1 does not by itself require reinstalling an already-compatible version 2.0 browser extension.
The WDM 2.0.1 update presentation is separate from automatic installation; the real signed in-app installer is not included in this release.
Explore the original WDM 2.0 feature launch and its 25 improvements.
Browse, start playback, capture supported downloads and keep the whole workflow inside WDM when you want a dedicated download workspace.
Convert video, audio, images, documents and archives from a dedicated native Converter with format, preset, quality, audio and destination controls.
WDM 2.0 includes its Safari extension in the app. Safari downloads, images, supported media and handoff workflows can stay connected without a separate extension download.
Updated WDM 2.0 browser companions support Chrome, Edge, Brave, Chromium-family browsers and Firefox, including media, page/file, image and browser-download workflows.
WDM 2.0 improves direct downloads, supported media resolution, retry/resume behavior, progress information, browser interception and recovery when a transfer stalls or a source changes.
Real media thumbnails take priority. When no real thumbnail exists, WDM uses a reviewed file-artwork system covering common file types with a dedicated unknown-file fallback.
Torrent and magnet workflows received updated transfer controls, speed/traffic reporting, persistent seeding support and better settings integration.
WDM can update yt-dlp, FFmpeg and Deno outside the signed app bundle with protected replacement and rollback behavior, while a running job remains isolated from the update.
The settings pass focuses on real persistence and runtime consumers: download folder, retry/resume, notifications, browser integration, media, speed, torrent, file handling and startup controls.
WDM 2.0 keeps the familiar dark identity while bringing a completed light-mode pass across the main app, settings, confirmation/progress surfaces and Converter.
Failed, cancelled, removed and manually paused jobs now have clearer terminal behavior so old progress windows do not unexpectedly return after relaunch.
WDM 2.0 is built as separate Intel and Apple Silicon releases while keeping shared application behavior aligned across both architectures.
A new one-time WDM 2.0 Welcome connects Safari, Chromium-family browsers and Firefox, highlights the major changes, then stays out of normal launches.
Shorts quality choices are shown only when WDM can verify the real formats for the exact current Short. If quality cannot be proven safely, WDM keeps the honest Best quality option instead of inventing a resolution list.
The WDM button stays attached to the exact Reddit video through refreshes, scrolling, virtualization and late player insertion, while thumbnail capture avoids WDM interface overlays.
A MediaFire-specific inactivity watchdog recovers stalled transfers without applying aggressive recovery behavior to unrelated sites.
WDM 2.0 strengthens browser-triggered downloads, direct files and object/blob download handoff while keeping ordinary web navigation as navigation.
The built-in browser adds stronger visual binding, correct media thumbnails, Google Search/reCAPTCHA compatibility and faster, order-preserving bookmark import.
The Bring WDM to Front setting now controls foreground behavior without forcing the entire app forward when the user has turned it off.
Licence checks provide clearer feedback, protected local state, device-limit handling, migration from WDM 1.1 and a bounded offline grace path.
Confirmation, progress and notification behavior received a final consistency pass so the state the user sees matches the work WDM is actually doing.
WDM 2.0 keeps runtime-updated media engines outside the signed app bundle, preserves rollback paths, and targets macOS 12+ without pretending newer-only APIs exist on older systems.
A dedicated setting controls WDM’s persistent and parallel HTTP optimization for compatible M3U8/HLS streams, so the faster path can be enabled when useful and disabled when a normal path is preferred.
WDM’s settings flow includes validation, full backup/restore coverage, real replace semantics and rollback if a settings write cannot be completed safely.
WDM 2.0 launches on macOS first. A Windows PC version is planned after the Mac release is fully closed.
Upgrade
WDM 2.0 keeps the existing licence/settings migration path. The new Welcome experience appears once for the major upgrade, then normal launches go straight to WDM.
WDM 2.0 is built around one idea: keep the download workflow connected. Browser capture, media handling, conversion, images, torrents, recovery and detailed controls should feel like parts of one product—not a collection of unrelated utilities.
